Somos Un Pueblo Unido

Somos Un Pueblo Unido

Location: New Mexico

Grant Amount: $100,000

Somos Un Pueblo Unido (Somos) is a statewide immigrant-based racial and worker justice organization in New Mexico. Through community organizing, strategic litigation, community-based research, and grassroots policy advocacy, Somos has helped shape the state’s immigrant and workers’ rights landscape for nearly three decades. For the last five years, Somos has been organizing rural, immigrant workers in New Mexico’s oil-rich Permian Basin to demand a just transition to clean energy, safer and better jobs, increased public investments in workforce development and social infrastructure in the region, and inclusion of undocumented immigrants in tax and economic relief benefits. As the state anticipates shifts in oil production, Somos is dedicated to ensuring that rural, immigrant communities weigh in and shape an equitable economy that improves BIPOC access to high-quality jobs and better living standards, allowing families to live, work, and thrive in the southeastern region for decades to come. With support from RCP, Somos plans to enhance its organizing and advocacy work to mobilize and develop grassroots leadership among rural oil and gas families.
