La Semilla Food Center

Location: New Mexico

Grant Amount: $100,000

La Semilla Food Center is at the heart of cultivating a healthy, equitable, and sustainable food system in the Paso del Norte region of New Mexico, with a deep commitment to regional food sovereignty. In Doña Ana County, they provide tailored programs that support small-scale farmers and promote agroecological practices. Their Farm Fresh program bolsters over 25 small-scale farmers through aggregation, distribution, market outlets, and training. The Community Farm serves as a vital educational and demonstration site, focusing on desert-adapted agriculture. With support from RCP, La Semilla will enhance its Farm Fresh program and develop a stronger network of agroecological farmers, crucial for the area’s agricultural resilience. Additionally, support for their policy program will launch a regional food systems policy fellowship, empowering local leaders to forge a more equitable and sustainable food landscape. La Semilla’s work represents a dedicated effort to revitalize local agriculture, educate on sustainable practices, and strengthen food security in rural New Mexico.
