Earth Charter Indiana

Location: Indiana

Grant Amount: $16,000

Earth Charter Indiana is advancing environmental justice with a 22-year legacy by launching the Rural Carpool project, specifically designed to meet the transportation needs of rural Indiana’s underserved small towns, villages and communities. Addressing the scarcity of public transit in these areas, the initiative introduces a free online service facilitating self-organized carpooling, directly targeting the unique challenges of rural transit. This innovative approach aims to significantly reduce both fuel expenses and CO2 emissions. Emphasizing active community engagement and robust data collection, this work aims to demonstrate its potential as a scalable, carbon-reducing solution for rural connectivity. Guided by trusted local leaders and with the support of RCP, the Rural Carpool project is set to enhance sustainable transportation and interconnectivity in rural communities.
